All ham fatchet best, John ham fatchet m Aversion therapy for the ham fatchet addicted?
Why just do it when you can overdo it? There's got to be more to this song than meets the ear. Where is Paul Harvey to tell us "the rest of the story" when we really need him??!! Stuart, in this instance, I would venture to say that "Ham Fatchet Blues" is every bit as stupid as it appears to be.
All best, Johnm Hi all,
Oh man, do I love this one. Much my favorite version of this song, and so much more interesting and tougher than the normal VI-II-V I raggy versions. Thanks, Fiddlin' John! All best, Johnm Stuart, in this instance, I would venture to say that "Ham Fatchet Blues" is every bit as stupid as it appears to be. Yes, but why? -And why was it recorded, how many copies were sold, and who bought them? (Yeah, I know--idiot questions about an idiot song ) It takes all kinds. It seems to be a satirical comment on the use of expletives, particularly f***ing or mother f***ing, as intensifiers, which populates some peoples speech as much as ham fatchet does this song. "Mamlish" is another word that seems to be an intensifier, as mamlish blues are obviously much worse than any plain ol' blues, but what the heck does "mamlish" mean? But then, mamlish sounds a lot cooler then ham fatchet, and is generally used a little more sparingly.
Wax Wax:
It struck me as possibly a satirical take and/or parody on the overuse of "ham fatchet" in the form of a novelty song. But what do I know? Cairo Blues, Henry Townsend. I didn't know there was film of Henry. Maybe now I can learn it right!
Hi all,
Here is one for any lovers of blues piano--Goldrush doing "All My Money Is Gone". Boy, did he have the whole package! Great singer, great lyrics, fine playing and such beautiful s-l-o-w-n-e-s-s. If you don't have that, you can't buy it! All best, Johnm
