That's what I liked about hitch-hiking. If a crowd wasn't big enough, I kept walkin'- Brownie McGhee

oddenda's comment on the Lillian McMurry thread started me searching for yet another couple of names I'm unfamiliar with. I found this: What a great sound! No mention of Percy Huff on this cut, I'll look him up later. dj
Quote No mention of Percy Huff on this cut Luther is playing one of the guitars and singing. Percy is playing the other guitar. Percy never recorded under his own name. I'm most excited about this gem. Welcome to WC ceepatton1928. That's cool that Ryan Baer is playing a fotdella. I've seen another YouTube clip of him using it (on the streets of New Orleans I think). I'm jealous. No mention of Percy Huff on this cut, I'll look him up later.Gayle Dean Wardlow was the first to write about Luther and Percy: The Huff Brothers in Blues Unlimited 56 (Sep 1968). I think an updated version appeared in Chasin' That Devil Music which I can't refer to at present 'cause it's on loan. dj
Quote I think an updated version appeared in Chasin' That Devil Music Right you are, on pages 112 - 114. The Huffs grew up around Jackson, Mississippi, and were influenced by the Johnson/Bracey/McCoy Brothers crowd. A particular influence on Percy, who was considered the "lead" player of the two, was Slim Duckett. Hi all,
Here's Tarheel Slim accompanying himself out of B, as he did on one tune on his Trix album, "No time At All". All best, Johnm I just came across this CBS tv show from the 60s I think, courtesy of a FB post from the Carolina Chocolate Drops.
This is a link to part 5, which has a great clip of a gandy dancer, and an unknown (to me!) guitar player. All the parts have music in them, some good stuff, check it out. awesome... I'm guessing the guitarist was recorded in a studio, so maybe he made recordings while he was at it, reminds me a bit of JW Warren. I liked the pretty girl too.
...thanks for sharing
