Alvin in top form, had me grinning like an idiot throughout.

Couldn't agree more about Dan Gellert.
The Alan Lomax Archive has posted quite a few Tommy Jarrell tracks; most of them are fiddle, but there are a few with his wonderful banjo playing. Here's an example: Thanks for posting Tommy Jarrell's performance of "Reuben", Chris. He had me disoriented at first, because I was hearing him drone a I note and was expecting a III drone, like you usually have in D tuning. Then I figured out his more regular drone is on the first string and he hits the high drone on the fifth string much more intermittently. What a great banjo player he was--I remember the first time I heard him play "Old Joe Clark", thinking, "I didn't think that tune could sound that good!"
All best, Johnm I'd forgotten how much I love this tune and performance. YouTube just keeps getting cooler and cooler.

Tommy Jarrell and Dan Gellert I think share an unusual quality (Wade Ward had it too) of making even the most commonplace, overplayed song or tune sound fresh each time. BanjoChris,Thanks for posting the Tommy Jarrell.Great to see footage of him with the Banjo.Just think,it wasn`t even his first instrument!!.How great he was.
Lyndvs. P.S.Some amazing footage on that Lomax channel Dink Roberts,Belton Sutherland,Eugene Powell on and on. Hi all,

For folks who might not have heard Memphis Willie B.'s '60s recordings on Prestige Bluesville. All best, Johnm
