Hambone Willie Newbern wasn't as well thought of in the area as maybe he should have been... when Yank's mother heard he'd traded the pig for a mandolin she said 'Well, that's OK son, this winter, when we're all eating meat, you can eat that mandolin' - Yank Rachell, as told by Steve James, Port Townsend 97
We attended the re-dedication of Warm Springs Methodist Cemetery near Crystal Springs, MS last week. Tommy Johnson after lying in an unmarked grave since 1956 finally has a head stone. And after an 11 year battle to re-open the cemetery by his niece, Vera Johnson-Collins it's finally done. The ceremony at Wisteria Inn in Crystal Springs was a wonderful event, with many speakers, family members and friends in attendance. Quote Bob Long of Southhampton, England: "Justice has been done, recognition has been achieved. The world is a better place. Amen.?
After talking with Vera today (Nov 8th) learned the head stone is still not in place. However she said the reason is due to all the rain over past few days. Also the cleaning of the cemetery is an ongoing process.

Meeting those people must bring back lots of memories today.
I never got to meet Vera's father, Mager. But she tells the story how he would take her out for ice cream and then go visit Tommy's grave at Warm Springs Methodist Cemetery. At that time Mager would tell her, "Vera, it's going to be up to you to tell this story someday." She's worked extremely hard at doing so.
Received a call from Vera yesterday evening (Dec 9th) telling us the headstone is "now in place".
Also an attractive archway at the cemetery entrance has been completed. Even one of the property owners that had been a problem in the past commented how nice it now looks.
A marble slab will soon be placed over the concrete on top the grave. Work on the 300 year old cemetery continues with more trees being removed.
