Hello weenies,
I would appreciate some input on this - the Webbington whilst delighted to have us again in 2018 have though changed their booking system and wanted me to pay something towards the block booking up-front!
As you will appreciate I felt there was limit to that and after some negotiation they have suggested this arrangement - which to me seems an admirable compromise -
I have explained our long standing relationship with you as a group and he (the manager) has offered that if we have the full balance the day prior to arrival, then he happy to keep this agreement going forward. Basically, we are asking for payment prior to arrival and I appreciate that this may a problem too far in advance.
Could you let me know asap if this is agreeable with you all - or at least those who know they will theoretically attending, how could you miss it! - or even better if you could pay when booking. that would be good for our brownie-points
I have provisional dates for Friday 13 (yes13) and Sat 14 April 2018 with the free use of the dreaded library AND they will do the same room rates for us again.
-
Maybe we could make it even easier for the hotel by paying in full up front and not turning up at all...
-
Well thanks for overwhelming repose, it looks to me as though Stuart has the best solution...
The dates ARE booked 13-14 April 2018 and I will post here again to confirm the agreed payment arrangement once I receive it from the hotel.
-
I am happy to pay in full at the time of booking, despite my antipathy towards those who feel it necessary to replace the perfectly serviceable 'in future' with 'going forward'!

Thanks Prof, seems the ideal solution - I'd hazard a guess that the new payment edict which came from on high could be the result of new management.

Hi Richard,
I'm intending
to attend
the 2018 weekend
but I don't comprehend
the trend
for the spend
on the dividend
at this early point in time....(oh bugger, couldn't think of another rhyme).
Payment at time of confirming the booking is fine by me.
Sorry for my tardiness in late response, I do not look at the weenies world wide interweb page frequently enough!
Cheers, Mike
ps - I'm now retired!
-
Sorry for lack of response Richard, I will of course try and make an appearance next year, and happy to loan the hotel some money, my rates are very reasonable :D
-
Excellent men, after various emails and missed calls with the Webb I had reached saturation point and was beginning to think what's the bloody point anyway!
I couldn't give a stuff how I pay for it, it does seem the easiest thing would be to pay when you book.. although I'm not sure if that is acceptable by the Webb...!
Enough!
-
As far as I know, past history should indicate they have nothing to worry about. To the best of my knowledge, we've not had people booking and then not showing up - nor turning up, staying and not paying.
And as per usual, kudos and thanks to Richard for his tireless efforts in this respect.
-
Ditto. Mind you, they've probably got wind of the fact that Yorkshire fowk are amongst the guests..?

Indeed . They have no problem with our impeccable credit history and we are now unbelievably established clients, it's just they have to comply with the new rules and regulations they have set themselves, in which case Razor Jim should be the one to sort it all out!
I didn't like to say it, but it could also be the Yorkshire factor.
-
Right, its September, so it must be time to start saving my pennies toward the cost of the Weenie 2018 extravaganza, Fri 13 April - Sun 15th April. Best try to rustle up some new numbers too!
-
Forgive a newbie asking, ut what is EuroBlues Weekend? My tail is waggin' at the thought.
-
Ah, a new keen weenie...
Basically the weekend has been going for getting on for what must be ten years and is simply a get together of derelict and semi-derelict weenie types for a couple of days of hotel based musical fun and frivolity. Nothing really to fear over the level of musical competence since I have dropped the grade nine requirement for incumbent's now to simply be able to hold the instrument the right way up.
Suggest you send me a pm if you think you might be interested and have any questions....
Where are you based?
R
-
pm'd you.
-
This thread has been very quiet so far this year, is everyone still going?
-
Only if you've got a new guitar....
-
Yes it certainly is still going as far as I'm concerned andI'll check with the hotel just to make sure they have not buggered it up again, so what about making a few bookings....
And, dare I say I certainly qualify with a new old guitar or two - or three, but don't tell 'er indorrs!

I think zi can fulfill that criteria your Professorial Scratchiness.
Danke Ricardo por la contactement du la hotel (preparing for my "Brush up on your franglais and other sound alikes" course.

Dear Prof - I can also bring my new banjos if you like too !?

Wash your mouth out with carbolic soap and water. You naughty boy!
-
Hey Michael. I have four great new banjo compilation cds which should just about cover our journey time up to Weenie weekend! You?ll be loving banjo by the time we get there.
-
Big Brother is watching and has to admit that he does own a banjo so bring 'em along, at least you can hear them not like them there Minnie Mouse uke things :P
-
Reminds me. I need to make a new bridge on my 6 sring banjo ready for April.
-
I feel under threat.... :'(
-
My computer is now working again and I have booked myself into the hotel.
I will, of course, be bringing my 5 string Banjo's & possibly some other instruments.
Libraries are the traditional location for murders ....
I look forward to seeing everyone again.
-
Excellent - now there's a hint to the rest of you, only 8 rooms left so get booking!
-
Seeing as the sun is currently shining I thought this update might be appropriate to get you all dreaming of a uxorious weekend in sunny Somerset...
As before it's the Webbington Hotel - http://www.webbingtonhotelandspa.co.uk
Tel 01934 750100
Room rates inc of VAT are -
Single occupancy Bed and Breakfast\Dinner ?85
Double occupancy Bed and Breakfast\Dinner ?110
You must mention WEEKEND BLUES and the dates when you book to get the rates I have agreed.
NOW help is needed - who could do a workshop to keep us all entertained? And, I could do with a very knowledgeable unisex personage (that's very PC) who could produce the quiz?
All suggestions welcome polite or otherwise.

Booked. I have an idea for an activity rather than a workshop, and I'll just haul it up the flagpole and wait for you to shoot it down. The title would be 'blues ideas in E', and the activity would involve each participant sharing one or more of their favourite moves in that key. It could be a different key, or indeed a different tuning. There wouldn't be pressure on everybody to participate if not up for it, but everybody could/might take something away from stealing others' favourite licks in the designated key or tuning....just an idea...
-
Good idea, Prof Scratch. Lorna and I are booked and look forward to seeing you all
-
Yes it's a very good idea and I'm sorry I didn't reply earlier Scratch, I thought I had - I fear my marbles have got jumbled up!
Whilst I'm here, is there anybody else with an idea of workshop or something to keep us all busy?

Time is ticking away until 1718 April if you have not yet made your booking now is the time :)
And, besides that we still need volunteers to offer workshops\talks\whatever else we shall be sat around doing bugger all :-X

You'll be on your own on Tuesday/Wednesday 17/18 April! ;D ;D ;D
-
Heavens, oh fornication! I knew this crappy callendar I was given with teddy bears on was rubbish >:(
The correct date is 13-14 April and now since I'm here, any more suggestions for passing the time?
-
Well, after 7(!) phone calls, Pete Gabony and I are booked in.
-
I have been checking with the Webbingtion and it seems we only have 5 of the rooms taken ... so now I do need to ask that if you are intending to come and have not booked yet, then can you!?
Please!
Last time, as I recall we were short of rooms so I booked the 10 again for this year and do not really want to mess the hotel about as they do put up with us :D
Also whilst in public appeal mode and assuming we will be there are the any more offers of talks\workshops\conjuring tricks\cookery tips or anything to keep us spellbound on our seats in the infamous library?
-
I have tried Richard... It seems that the webbington admin and customer service has fallen away somewhat since our first visit. When I called, I was told that they could not take my booking without talking to the events managers to confirm prices (albeit I confirmed them from your post). They insisted that they would have to call back. But didn't. I'll try again shortly!
I think there is something that I can do to fill the time- but it wont be particularly lengthy (or illuminating!)
-
You could go to the car park, chop down a tree and show us how to make a guitar. That should fill a couple of hours?

-
Prof, I'll bring my chopper...
Slim, I appreciate your efforts, if you get further trouble then let me know and I'll ring 'em.
Let's see how it goes, maybe we are nearing the end of the road.?
-
For a variety of reasons, I have decided to give it a miss this year. Hope you'll all behave yourselves without me and somebody else takes some snaps of the event.
-
I'm now booked. Effortless on the second attempt :-)
-
That's good news Slim, maybe they were just having a bad day or !
On the other hand, PP very sorry to hear you won't be joining the festivities, we were all looking forward to your solos..
Now who else is lurking out there, yet to book?
-
I have to say response seems a slow this year, I still have 3 rooms left and the hotel are wondering if they will be taken - I certainly don't want to be lumbered with anything!
For those that make the effort to come on the day a thank you, that though that doesn't help the hotel bookings. So, sadly after doing this for many years what I am trying to say is that this may be the last event I will put on - finding somewhere to take us has always been a struggle, but with the hotel keen to fill it's rooms and a lack of weenie type punters there is little I can do and I certainly don't need the headache.
Ergo, if you are intending to come then please let me know NOW else I will release the reservation of the remaining rooms at the end of the week
-
Hi everyone,
I am sorry, but due to health and domestic reasons, I am dropping out of this years Weenie weekend, I hope you all have a good time.
Richard, in light of your previous note (about difficulties in take up of rooms), I am particularly sorry to compound these for you. I have informed th3 hotel.
Best wishes, Mike.
-
Mike, very sorry to hear that, from your point of view not mine I hope you get sorted out sooner than later :)
-
Aw, that?s a great shame, Mike. Hope things improve quickly for you.

Yep- sorry to hear that Mike. I enjoy listening to your stuff.
-
Dear All,
I will be joined by my wife, a keen rambler, who will spend the days exploring the local countryside.
I look forward to seeing you all.
Kind Regards
Graham

Hello Boys and Girls (as in Mrs Bob-a-Long and the Lady Slo Blo) not long to go now before we will be frolicking with our toys in the library along with Miss Scarlet, the Rev Grope and the other folk from Cluedo :P
Despite the reduced bookings I hope we shall be seeing the day-trippers from Exeter way to add to the fun. We should still have a few things to occupy ourselves with as I have cobbled up a quiz of sorts, we have Uncle Bob-a-Long's masterclass in something and I've been promised even a surprise appearance... :-X
There is of course a wedding on over the weekend so we can be assured of some entertainment and view the latest in ill fitting suits.
Meantime, I look forward to seeing you all on Friday afternoon... I suppose I should add that this is probably going to be the last such gathering since with the reduced numbers plus the hassle from the hotel regarding paying for all the rooms, just at the momemnt I'm not too enthusiastic about trying for next year.
SO let's enjoy it!

-
Hope you have a great time. Sorry I won't be there - I'll miss you all (well, most of you... ;D).
May I again congratulate and thank Richard for all his efforts over the years. Sterling performance!
I did suggest to Mike S maybe a return to somewhere in the New Forest region next year. Who knows?
-
PP thanks for the commendation, time will tell if somebody else wants to take it over - it's not the event, it's hotel aspect that has become a pain in the proverbial :o
-
Hi to everyone,
I am sorry to say I cannot make it this year. This is not due to Mr Shipman's absence but due to the confluence of a miasmic smorgasbord of pressing personal issues that militate in favour of my egress from the immediate environs.
So I hope you have a pleasing weekend of mellifluous melodies, strident strangulation, rasping rhythms and crapulent cadences.
I hope to see those of us still alive in 2019
Key to the Highway,
Peter

Although fewer in number than in previous years, the Euroweenie gathering was nonetheless an intimate and enjoyable affair, with surprise Saturday guests of marshcat, Harvey and Michael Messer. Richard received a brick in recognition of his organisational prowess. The first night's food was good, and the second night's wasn't. Good to see those that made it and to enjoy many fine tunes in their company!

Thanks Prof and thanks to all who attended and have done so in the past - if anybodybody else wants to take it over do let me know!
The event will be missed (unlike the food on the second night) :-X I will post the infamous quiz here in a day or so, which incidentally was won by the Prof. and I think Marshcat may have taken a few pics ???
So once again, thanks to all and it was good to finally get Michael Messer to appear even if it was the last one since he has been threatening to come for ages - Phil, PP, MS and PG sorry you weren't there.

Attached is a copy of the quiz - the question numbering may be up the proverbial creek since I have removed those pertinent only to Englad.
See how you get on, if you want the answers send me a pm.

It was good to see you all again and to hook up with Michael again after some years; my 1930 style 3 triplate was also pleased to meet his Fine Resophonic square-neck triplate.
I've asked for a new photo gallery (see "Quick Menu" sidebar) and will post some pictures of you guys as soon as I've photoshopped out some of the wrinkles... could take a while :D
