Post by: Randy Meadows on February 09, 2013, 07:41:42 AM
Yazoo Advert - C. Patton
Im not sure of the story here.... He looks younger in the top photo than the Guitar photo...
But pose and clothes are similiar...
Anyone know the origin of each or if they are in fact the same photo...

I'm no expert but the advert looks like photograph of a good painting or rendering  taken from the photo to me- not a second photo.

I am going by the way the central portion, the face, tie and shirt are realistic and fully rendered and the background shows through in the lapel area. I don't think they had computer software to do that back when the ad was made.

Hi Randy:

The scan comes from a booklet/catalog that Yazoo sent out in the mid-1970s. I held on to mine and scanned it--along with its Blue Goose counterpart--several years ago. The stock / background is light blue. I doubt that a lot of attention was paid to preserving the original quality of the photo (which was probably several reproductions removed from the original) and the scan wasn't exactly high resolution. I wouldn't put too much faith in it being a photo of a younger CP, unless you believe he was a master of the crooked bow tie. It looks like his shirt and jacket were re-touched a well.

Hi all,
I think Harriet has it right.  It wasn't a photo, but a drawing/slash painting done by Gary Bready, I believe, who did artwork on several Yazoo albums from around that period.
All best,
Johnm

Gary Bready is a name I haven't heard in years. He was a Welshman who wrote reviews and supplied illustrations for a blues magazine I was involved with in 1973. Nick Pearls so liked Gary's illustrations he did for that magazine that he wrote asking if we would put Gary in touch with him. I may still have the correspondence somewhere.

But I veer w-a-y off topic.
