Title: Rasp voice country blues singers
Post by: JRO on June 09, 2017, 06:26:39 AM
Hi,

I've been trying to remember one country blues singer who's voice reminds little Blind Willie Johnson's voice but is maby even more raspy. He's also guitarplayer. If I remember correctly he's record(s) were found quite lately. Maby some of them are published in Blues Images cd's? I coudn't find him from my collection allthough I've listened pretty many records lately and I will continue. So maby he comes out in here? Please list artists and examples of their material to this topic.

Hi JRO,
I don't know if it is the singer you're trying to remember, but might it be Blind Gussie Nesbitt, who had two songs on the most recent Tefteller calendar CD?
All best,
Johnm

Thank you Johnm for the suggestion. It didn't match. If my memory serves me right the man I'm looking for is secular artist and I quess the recordings were published again at this side of the 21th century.

What about Robert Petway. He had more of a deep bottom sound like BWJ than McClennan did. Doesn't fit the "records found quite lately" criteria.

How about Cecil Barfield ("William Robertson") here?
