Last Autumn I was foolish enough to raise my head above the parapet and suggest the creation of a Weenie Campbell CD. I am delighted to say that I will be taking delivery of the finished product today.
So here's what you need to know:
The album is a compilation of 17 fine country blues tunes performed by a variety Weenie members. A full track listing can be found in the attached cover pictures.
You can order Blind Weenie's Blues now for the princely sum of ?8 / $12.95 to include postage, or you can wait until it reaches CD Baby (which should be in the next few weeks) where it should be available as both CD and download.
To order direct, you can use paypal- simonfield@gofast.co.uk, including your delivery address.
All profits from the CD will be donated to Weeniecampbell.com
Huge thanks to:
- Phil Thorne for assistance throughout, and Mike Thorne for donating his skill and time to master the project.
BanjoChris and Unezerider, for the sterling work on art and design.
All contributors for their time and music.
If you think you may have a good opportunity to sell some of these CDs for us (perhaps you are attending / organising a relevant gig or workshop soon?) please get in touch.
I will be in contact shortly with all contributors.

Matches the content. I seem to have had this CD playing non-stop in iTunes since I was given a "test pressing" seven days ago. No denying there's some serious vocal and instrumental talent lurking in them thar Weenie hills.
Simon in his booklet note observes, "I believe that the talent and music of the collected "Weenies" is deserving of wider attention". Very true, and to that end I'm currently in the process of writing a lengthy review which will be submitted to Blues & Rhythm magazine.
In light of this it would be invidious of me at this stage to single out for special comment individual performances, but all are of the highest standard with something for every taste in roots music ? even the banjo get's a heads-up!
Seriously, if you don't purchase this CD (or download mp3s) you'll live to rue the day. ;D
-
Praise indeed. Norfolk Slim, you'd better put Bunker Hill's fiver in the post right away. >:D
-
There are some unfamiliar names here..Stuart Cumberpatch, Blue in Green? Who dey?
-
Mr Cumberpatch is commonly known as Marshcat. Blueingreen is our resident pre war harp guy- I dont think I know his real name!
-
Cool cover design too.
-
Placed my order this morning.
-
Hey guys. My real name is Mike Peterson. Thanks very much for including me. I have to get up here much more often that's for sure.
-
I'm in. I'll be camping out by the mailbox. Thanks again, Simon!
-
Let us know when it's available on CD Baby -- I will definitely promote it on my website, facecrack, etc.
-
wow that looks really nicely done, congrats all :)
-
Just a quick note to all who have already sent messages or ordered...
I've not had a chance to individually respond yet, and the CDs actually arrived later than promised... However they are safely with me now and I am expecting to make some time tomorrow evening to start packaging and sending.

At your convenience, Simon. Don't turn this into a chore--no one needs another brick on the load.

I'll second that!
Thanks for Simon and everyone involved in this project! Looking forward to hear it! I just ordered 10 copies to share with family and friends. It's a great gift idea, folks! 8)
Let us know when it's available on CD-Baby.
Cheers

Hi Norfolk Slim / NS / Simon (Im not sure of the Weenie etiquette with name calling..?!
I will definitely order a copy. Having met many of you at the Euroweenie event recently I can testify to the huge amount of talent that abounds. I use Paypal for ebay purchases and will have to work out how to use it for this purchase, however, I am somewhat "challenged" with many of the processes of the "world wide interweb and its associated stuff" so if anyone has any pointers on how I make this transaction it'd be gratefully received!.
Thanks, Mike.
-
You just log in to paypal and select "send money" from the tabs at the top. It then takes you through the required information- which is essentially just my email address.
Glad you enjoyed the weekend.
I don't think there's any real etiquette re: names. ;)

Hey Simon et al
Just wanted to say a big THANKS for all of your hard work in doing this great benefit Weenie CD! I'm looking forward to never having to do a fund raiser again! :P And thanks to all of you who contributed tracks to the CD! Very generous of you and to those that have their own CD's - I hope it helps spread the word and some sales around to your CDs as well. Wow, I can hardly wait to hear it.
I've been out of town this past weekend (a semi annual pilgrimage to Lafayette, whcih takes be longer and longer to recover from!) and just about caught up - so Simon I'll email you soon about how we can promote this baby further.
Thanks again!
-
Just a note to say that the first batch of orders has gone out today, and a second batch is packaged up ready to go tomorrow. At that point I should be up to date with all orders so far...
CDBaby is set up and will go live once the CDs arrive with them.
-
In the event that we download from CD Baby will we be getting an uncompressed file same as the CD or no? Also if we do choose to download , can the cover art be posted here or there as a full sized download for us to print at home?
Thanks for all your hard work Simon :)
-
The D/Ls are high quality MP3s I believe- so audiophiles will prefer a CD.
I'm sure we could arrange to make the cover art available for download somehow.

Wow look at me - a 21st century world wide interweb money sender!
Hi Simon, Ive managed to send my ?8 to you via PayPal, a small step for mankind, but a reasonable step for me. Thanks for the instructions.
Am now eagerly waiting by the letterbox.....!
Cheers, Mike.

i don;t have the CD yet, but I will also make the CD available to those who donate through the donation page once we get things a little better coordinated.
-
Hi all,
I've been away for a while and off-line and returned to find this CD has been released. Congratulations to all whose performances are included and to all of those who labored behind the scenes to perform the other additional tasks needed to make it a reality. I'm ordering it soon and look forward to hearing it!
All best,
Johnm

The CD's arrived today!
Thanks Simon and Team! It's a really nice album. Colm
-
I got mine yesterday. Sounds great and looks great!
-
hello friend,
just wanted to say i've been listening to the cd since it arrived last night, & it's pretty damn good! (if i may say so) :P
-
Received mine today--Imported it into iTunes, entered the info and submitted the info to the CD database. Hopefully, it will be available shortly. I'm not responsible for any errors, 'cause a more competent person should have done it already! :P
-
I'm one of those anti-apple types so I wouldn't even know how:-)
On another note, I am pleased to announce that the CD is now available on CDBaby-
http://cdbaby.com/cd/blindweeniesblues2 (http://cdbaby.com/cd/blindweeniesblues2)
Please feel free to continue placing orders direct with me as above, but CDBaby is now an alternative option, including a download. We will arrange to make the artwork available online for downloaders.

Hi Simon:
I just use iTunes by default--and an old version at that. When my son got an iPod back in 2004, he imported a bunch of CDs and I adopted iTunes as a kind of storage and organizational system. My daughter is a big fan of Winamp.
I guess I could be snide and say that a lot of this stuff is just high tech gimcrackery, but I think that saying that it isn't for everyone is a more accurate way of expressing how I feel about it--to each his or her own. In any event, I just wanted to tip folks off that I did the grunt work and submitted the CD info to the Gracenote database so that no one else would spend time doing it.
I listened to the CD all the way through yesterday after submitting the info. The density of talent on it is quite impressive, to say the least.
Edited to add: I kept trying to look in the back of "Frenchies" in the liner notes photo 'cause it sounded like O'Muck was playing in there...
-
Just ordered mine! My first time as a solo act on a record and I started performing in 1968...it feels like a strangely delayed experience.
Are any non Weenie affiliated media going to review it I wonder?
-
I just got this today - ordered via cdbaby. Beautiful artwork and totally cool label. Dang, we sure have a bunch of good singers and players around here. Thanks and congratulations to all.
-
Just got my copies today - thanks, Simon! Great listening!
-
Sound great, good variety and lots of music. Looks like a Yazoo release and could hold its own with them IMHO.
-
Sounds & looks great guys, good work!
-
I received my CD yesterday (thanks Simon!) and I've been listening yesterday and today --- outstanding job all around! There are some very talented folks out there in weenie land. I'll get Blind Weenie's Blues on Weenie Juke forthwith. :)
-
Glad you're enjoying it. Bein gon the juke will be quite an accolade!
Anyone waiting to order from CDBaby will find it was restocked yesterday- so now is the time...
-
Had my copy for some weeks now and its had loadsa plays! It's been really good having met some of the players on the disc at Euroweenie as it really adds another dimension to it.
Well done everyone who contributed.
-
Got my copy of the physical CD the other day. Thanks Simon!
Sounds fantastic and has lots of variety. It is so cool to hear one my little harmonica solos in among all the great tracks from the members here. Simon, thank you very much for including my song.
It's also been fun to Google the other players and hear more of your songs. Very talented and accomplished musicians! If any of you are interested in doing some remote recording collaborations, please let me know. Not the same as playing together but I'd love to do it.

Cover looks great, well done!

I'm currently in the process of writing a lengthy review which will be submitted to Blues & Rhythm magazine.
Ahem. May I most respectfully ask what might have become of said review? Is it already published? I couldn't find anything on B & R's website, so I assume it's not online. In which number might the review be, if it indeed is published?
Thanks,
Pan

Argghhhhhhhh. Mea culpa.
I'd written one and a bit paragraphs when my younger brother suffered a stroke and constant travelling to and from Suffolk combined with hours on the phone sorting out his care it completely went off the radar. I won't bore you with the ins and outs but I'll see if I can't find the time to finish what I started.
Shame on me. :'( :'( :'(

Thank you for the update, Bunker Hill.
Sorry to have bothered you with this, when you obviously have more important issues at hand!
Yours

I'd say that's a pretty good excuse Bunker. A stroke is a terrible thing, I hope your Brother is recuperating steadily.
Looking forward, Adam.

I'm sorry to hear about your brother, Alan. Here's wishing him a full and speedy recovery. These things are never easy--we're all there with you in spirit.
-
Let me just add my good wishes for your brother, BH. Priorities! :)
-
Might anyone have a copy of this cd they'd like to sell??
Rick
-
Its still available as a download on CDBaby.
Other than what, its possible I have one or two left somewhere.
Which reminds me- I need to send Slack some extra funds CDbaby sent me recently (not a lot- but all helps I guess...)
-
Thanks Simon!
-
Is it time for volume 2?
-
Probably, I think they are sold out - are you offering?
I know it was a major task for Simon and it would be unfair for him to be in the frame again.
I'm sure he'll be on hand with advice.
-
Volume 2 would be fun. But with changes to work and so on in recent times I'm afraid I definitely could not put in the time to get heavily involved.
