Its like somebody making your lip speak, making it say things he thinks.... The Blues is a slow story. The feeling of the beautiful things that happen to you is in the Blues; it's a home language like two friends talking. It's the language everybody understands. You can inject into people with the instrument I think. - Trumpeter Henry Red Allen on the blues

Doc Reed Lyrics
« on: December 28, 2014, 03:38:47 PM »
Hi all,
Doc Reed was an Alabama singer, I believe, who was often recorded singing with Vera Hall.  Here is Doc Reed's version of the hymn "Down On Me".  I sure love the way he sings this.

REFRAIN: Down on me, down on me
Looks like everybody in whole round world,
Down on me

One of these mornings, bright and fair
Hitch on my wings and try the air
Looks like everybody in the whole round world,
Down on me

REFRAIN: Down on me, down on me
It looks like everybody in whole round world,
Down on me

Mary, Martha, Luke and John
All God's prophets dead and gone
Looks like everybody in whole round world,
Down on me

REFRAIN: Down on me, down on me
Looks like everybody in the whole round world,
Down on me

Aint' been to Heaven but I've been told
Gates is pearly and the streets is gold
Looks like everybody in whole round world,
Down on me

REFRAIN: Down on me, down on me
Looks like everybody in whole round world,
Down on me

God is God, God is God, rain is rain
God's the man don't never change
Looks like everybody in whole round world,
Down on me

REFRAIN: Down on me, down on me
Looks like everybody in whole round world,
Down on me

All best,
Johnm
