Beat-Up Team

Otis Spann - Vocals, Piano
Robert Lockwood Jr. - Guitar

August 23, 1960
New York, New York

Piano in E

Know the blues ain’t nothin’ but a botheration on your mind
You know the blues ain’t nothin’ but a botheration on your mind
When you think your woman is gone your woman there with you all the time

I used to pick a whole lotta cotton baby peoples and I used to pull a whole lotta corn
You know I used to pick a whole lotta cotton people and I used to pull a whole lotta corn
I used try to tell the city boy what to do but look like to me he just couldn't learn

Ain't it wonderful to know what to do special when you at home
Ain't it wonderful to know what to do special when you at home
That's why I was raised up working Lord now out there on Mister Mister Charley Farm

I couldn't go to town 'til Saturday peoples I couldn't even spend my dough
I couldn't even go to town 'til it was Saturday peoples I couldn't even spend my gold
You know I would even got scared now I was scared to go from door to door

Well when I wasn't driving tractors baby I had me a old beat-up team
You know when I wasn't driving tractors you know I had me a old beat-up team
You know I was down in Mississippi and people you know just what I mean

The work wasn't so hard but my boss was so doggone mean
You know the work wasn’t hard but my boss was so doggone mean
But I had two pretty horses Lord two of the one that you ever seen

You know when you see me laughing I'm laughing just to keep from cryin’
When you see me laughing you know I'm laughing just to keep from cryin’
You know I done worked so hard I can't it off of my mind

Session supervisor Nat Hentoff
“He had his stuff so totally and deeply together. We could I suppose have done four albums, but we did two. I think everything was one take. If there was something that wasn’t one take, it’s because the engineer goofed, not him. He had an enormous spirit.”

Lord knows I love you can’t stand your evil ways

I wanna love you, baby, she tell me, “Daddy, you know I ain't tired tonight”

Hi Blues Vintage,
The video you posted for "Hungry Country Girl" won't play in the U. S. I found another and posted it. Is it the same rendition you originally posted? This one has a long spoken intro which didn't show in the transcription.
All best,
Johnm

Thanks John and islandgal.

Yes it's the same rendition. I skipped the spoken intro because I couldn't hear a lot of words.
I took a shot at it anyway.

I took a shot at it, too.

(Spoken: You know these people walkin’ ‘round here, I'm talkin’ ‘bout?  Their woman done left them 'n'all that kinda "don’t care" and all. I don’t see why that woman have to leave him, mines ain’t left me yet. But I don’t know how soon. ‘Cause I keep that woman of mine just as fat and healthy as she can be. Sure do. You know because I raise hogs, chickens and cows and everything, and she better not act like she hungry. "I want some cow, dear."  And if she want her shoak*, I go out there and catch one of them shoaks*, and she’ll have pork chops all the week. Sure will. And every time she get hungry, she get evil. You can’t blame the girl, ‘cause she’s a country girl)

A shoat is a young pig, especially one just weaned. It seems there may be a regional pronunciation as "shoak"?

Always enjoyed Otis.
