Oh Papa (mama don't care for you)
« on: October 17, 2014, 07:50:44 AM »
Hi all,

Does anyone know the origin of this song and/or which artists have performed it? It sounds like a simplified version of Elizabeth Cotten's "Mama Your Papa Loves You"/Honeybabe Your Papa Cares for You. I became aware of this version of the song in a Stefan Grossman video but he doesn't mention the origin of it.

Thanks,
Annabel

I got the answer from Stefan himself:

"The tunes are related. I learnt my version from Patrick Kilroy in 1964. Elizabeth Cotten had stayed with him for several weeks and Pat picked up the tune from her. I've never heard a version done by Elizabeth."
