Mance's Blues in G
« on: December 21, 2006, 12:09:39 PM »
Howdy all,

Been awhile since I posted a new recording...so here goes!  This is a version of Mance Lipscomb's Blues in G.  I really like this tune...much of it consists of various bass patterns...what Ernie Hawkins calls the "Texas, Thumb, Bass, boogie, Thing".  Anyway for a relative beginner like myself it is a lot of fun to play.  I have opted to link to my putfile page do to the ability to post higher rez files. the link is down below!

Enjoy!

Song: Blues in G
Guitar: Larrivee OM-05MT
Strings: Elixir Nanoweb Custom Light PBs.
Recorder: Sony MZ N707 minidisc
Microphone: Sony ECM-OS70P...about 15 inches from guitar
Software: Audacity
Clumsy fingers:  ALL MINE!!!

Hey Blue:

The thing I like about this is your clean picking. This may not be appropriate on some tunes, but it sure is on this one.

I'm sure your working towards speeding this up a touch, which will make it sound more flowing, rippling.

Nice touch!!

Thanks guys!!

waxwing...sorry you're having a hard time hearing it

Ghost...speed is certainly someting I'm still working on...this is about as fast as I can go and hold it all together for the entire song at this point...practice makes perfect eh?

This is my first "dead thumb" song and it was suprisingly challening...my thumb just wants to alternate the bass...thats all it knows... ;D

Cheers,

Hey Blue,

I liked it, but I have to confess I was pre-biased -- I was born 'n' raised in Vermont (St. Albans).   I also remember going over a lesson from Acoustic Guitar magazine on Mance's montonic bass.  I like it, but like you I found it hard after being used to an alternating bass.
