Greatest CB Hits of 1938
« on: January 21, 2013, 03:23:51 PM »
Folks:

For years I've tried, at open stages, to play CB tunes that are 75 years old. Well, that's 1938 this year and I'm sort of stuck. Do any of you know any guitar-centric CB tunes released in 1938 I could use?

Thanks in advance,
Alex

A quick look at my YouTube favourites give these:

Blind John Davis -Alley Woman Blues
Curtis Jones - Reefer Hound Blues
Sleepy John Estes -Clean Up At Home
Sleepy John Estes -Liquor Store Blues
Virgil Childers -Somebody Stole My Jane

The source being YT, a double check on the dates would be recommended.

Kid Prince Moore recorded 6 tunes on 1938.

If you do a search for "blues 1938" in YouTube, you'll have plenty to chew on.

Cheers

Blind Boy Fuller:

- Pistol Slapper Blues
- Piccolo Rag
- Funny Feeling Blues
- Meat Shaking Woman
- What's That Smells Like Fish
- She's A Truckin' Little Baby
- Jivin' Woman Blues
-  Get Your Yas Yas Out
-  Jitterbug Rag
and many more...

Tampa Red did many as well.

Cheers

Yeah, was just about to say 1938 saw one of Fuller's best sessions, IMO, April 5-6.

Estes: Everybody Oughta Make a Change. I could see you doin' that one, Alex.

Bo Carter: Shake 'Em On Down, Let's Get Drunk Again, Whiskey Blues among many others.

Some of my favorites:

Bill Broonzy - It's Your Time Now
Bill Gaither - Old Coals Will Kindle (looking at what I've got from 1938, this would be my absolute favorite)
Bo Carter - Shake 'Em On Down, Old Devil, and Country Fool
John Henry Barbee - all four of his pre-war recordings
Kid Prince Moore - Talkin' Bout That Snuff
Virgil Childers - Who's That Knockin' At My Door?
Yank Rachell - I'm Wild And Crazy As Can Be

Shorty Bob Parker - Ridin' Dirty Motorcycle
Uncle Skipper (Charley Jordan) - Look What a Shape I'm In

Edit:  Bo Carter Whiskey Blues / Country Fool gets my vote for CB record of they year.
