I asked him how 'bout it and he said, "all right." I asked him how long, and he said, "all night!" - Mattie Delaney, Big Road Blues

Guess this song
« on: March 04, 2009, 08:07:21 PM »
and there is a song I've been searching for years, now. I heard it on a radio show, Wednesday Night at the Movies, on WPKN.
It's a variation of John Henry. A talking blues for the John Henry part and he gets sick and Polly has to take up his hammer. I forget what happens but it ends with a singing part of" Whose going to shoe your pretty little feet." It has a wonderful slide part and i'm dying to hear it again. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

Furry Lewis I do believe. Was there a lot of reverb on it?

Thanks for the reply. This song introduced me to Furry because the singer I remember might've sounded like a young Furry Lewis.
No reverb tho'. Pretty sure it was acoustic. The talking part was just alternating bass.

Could have been Henry Johnson (Trix 3304) - it's mainly a long monologue w. only an occasional sung verse. Your description fits. He plays a National.

Henry Johnson would be my guess, too.  The song is on the Juke, so you can request it if you're willing to wait a while for it to play.

I got that ordered! Is that the only version? I remember it sounded like a young man talking and singing. I could be wrong. This was like 25 years ago. Thanks to dj and oddenda and all the fellas on the Weenie Campbell forum.

You will REALLY like that record! And I'm not saying that because I produced it!! Henry wasn't THAT old when I recorded him, by the by.
