Though he doesn't play on all of them, my Sam Chatmon discography (hopefully - any corrections/additions are welcome!) contains all of the Mississippi Sheiks recordings:

Hi Stefan,

After doing a little Googling yesterday I did end up at your tremendous discography pages. Today, for some reason, the Sam Chatmon page does not display properly. I just get a weird pattern (using Mozilla, Windows). Other discography pages worked although with the odd pattern (which seems to have links buried in it)? still at the top of the page.

I'm curious if you've heard the New Mississippi Sheiks material and the other more modern material and whether it's good. I do have some later Sam Chatmon on a compilation CD, and there is the footage on one of the videos from Stefan Grossman or Yazoo, and he's playing surprisingly well. Am curious to hear Walter Vinson, who I didn't know survived into the 1970s.

I noticed this new release while browsing Roots and Rhythm's newsletter on their website (www.rootsandrhythm.com).

"SAM CHATMON    Dynamic 32    Blues When It Rains    ● CD $17.98
Delightful collection of 11 sides recorded in 1976 at his home in Hollandale, Mississippi by this infrequently recorded Mississippi country bluesman and songster. Sam is in fine form on a selection of his most popular songs - St. Louis Blues/ Stoop Down Girl/ I'm A Fool About Your Loving/ Used To Be (Sam's unique take on Lowell Fulson's Black Nights)/ Good Eat Meat Boy, etc."

This is a rerelease of a 1977 record called Hollandale Blues, according to Stefan's discography. Tracks include:

Sam Chatmon: Hollandale Blues

- St. Louis Blues
- That's All Right
- Stoop Down Girl
- Baby Please Come Back To Me
- I'm Fool About Her Loving
- Prowling Ground Hog
- Old Devil
- Used To Be
- Blues When It Rains
- Good Eating Meat
- Let's Get Drunk Again

FWIW, here's the entire session as in Robert Ford's unpublished "work in progress", Blues Records 1971-2000

V/g.    Hollandale, Ms, 6/7 Aug 1976

St. Louis blues      Albatros (It) LP 8408
That's all right                          ~
Stoop down girl                         ~
Baby please come back to me      ~
I'm a fool about her loving           ~
Prowlin' ground hog                    ~
(Go back) old devil                     ~
Used to be                               ~
Blues when it rains                     ~
Good eat meat boy                   ~
    (Good eating meat)
Let's get drunk again                  ~
Open your book    Albatros (It) LP 8387

As the entire post-70 Chatman entry is quite lengthy I'm going to send it Stefan for his edification... ::)
