We started out from our parents - it's just a gift that we had in the family. Our mother and father they could both play. And see he was an old musicianer in slavery time. He played for the white folks at square dances and so it was handed down to us - Sam Chatmon

New umbrella topic for books and magazine articles you might come across on country blues.

Here are three titles I was unaware of until this morning; looks like a lot of ink is getting spilled in the name of Robert Johnson:

"Robert Johnson: Lost and Found" by Barry Lee Pearson and Bill McCulloch (University of Illinois Press)

"Robert Johnson, Mythmaking and Contemporary American Culture" by Patricia R. Schroeder(due from University of Illinois Press in July)

"Escaping the Delta: Robert Johnson and the Invention of the Blues" by Elijah Wald (Amistad/HarperCollins)

A review of their main points at: http://www.nytimes.com/2004/02/28/arts/music/28BLUE.html?8hpib

Well, not really on a CB topic, but close enough . . .

New book on Hank Williams, can't tell if it's a biography or just a tribute.  Good review written by Garrison Keillor at

The link will probably last for 7-14 days.
