I Mean to Live For Jesus-Blind Alfred Reed
Alfred Reed, vocal and fiddle, Arthur Wyrick, guitar in G position, standard tuning

It's sad, indeed, to study about how some folks do
They're awfully kind and friendly, they are church members, too
And when it's time for preaching, from church they'll turn aside
And spend their time in a movie show or take an auto ride

REFRAIN: I mean to live for Jesus, no matter what they do
And if I'm true and faithful, I know I will get through
And when I've safely landed, on Heaven's happy shore
I'll be with my redeemer and sing praises evermore

Some folks will go to preaching, they'll stay outside and joke
Swap knives and chew tobacco, drink whiskey, swear and smoke
Before the awful Judgement, when every name is read
They'll ask the Lord to forgive them but all hope for them has fled

REFRAIN: I mean to live for Jesus, no matter what they do
And if I'm true and faithful, I know I will get through
And when I've safely landed, on Heaven's happy shore
I'll be with my redeemer and sing praises evermore

We'll take some of our leaders, some call them clean and pure
They'll pray and say, "Oh Jesus, have mercy on the poor."
But when it comes to trading, just let me say right now
They'll surely cheat some poor man out of his best horse or cow

REFRAIN: I mean to live for Jesus, no matter what they do
And if I'm true and faithful, I know I will get through
And when I've safely landed, on Heaven's happy shore
I'll be with my redeemer and sing praises evermore

The picture shows and pool rooms, they are an awful curse
Moonshiners, clubs and dances, the world grows worse and worse
Some day they'll get in trouble, and clearly see their fate
They'll call on God to forgive them, but I fear 'twill be too late

REFRAIN: I mean to live for Jesus, no matter what they do
And if I'm true and faithful, I know I will get through
And when I've safely landed, on Heaven's happy shore
I'll be with my redeemer and sing praises evermore
