Article - Red River Blues

"Red River Blues" made its first appearance very early in the recorded history of the blues, with Lottie Beamon's version from 1924. Since then, it has proved to be one of the most durable and frequently-recorded songs in the blues, existing in a multitude of different versions. Josh White's 1933 recording of "Blood Red River" introduced a new tributary which was to prove to be very influential, particularly for East Coast blues musicians.
