Country Blues > Port Townsend Country Blues Workshop
Warren Argo
(1/1)
lindy:
Sorry to have to deliver this news, but Warren Argo, who was the combined artistic/managing director of the Port Townsend Country Blues Workshop for two (three?) years, died yesterday.
Since Warren was also a big part of Fiddle Tunes, I would imagine that something will be posted soon at centrum.org. Same with Northwest Folklife, for which he was a mover and shaker -- nwfolklife.org
Warren had his fingers in a lot of Pacific Northwest acoustic music pies, and he'll be leaving a lot of friends who will miss him greatly.
Lindy
uncle bud:
Very sorry to hear this, Lindy. My condolences to his family and all his colleagues and friends at Centrum.
FrontPage:
For those of you who are Facebook members, a tribute page has been set up as a memorial to Warren. There's lots to read, and you may even run across some familiar people. Warren was legendary as a sound man for acoustic music. I posted my clearest memory of him, that being as MC during one of the Blues Concerts while he was serving as program director for Centrum. It went something like this:
"Music will take you through times with no money better than money will take you through times with no music." Admonishing the concert audience to buy the performers' CDs (note: this one is in the quote generator)
I just read this one on the FB tribute page that I really liked:
"Don't worry, they aren't that good." Responding to someone complaining that they couldn’t hear one of the instruments very well.
Johnm:
Warren was a very warm, open and generous man, and notably without the need to have things be one particular way, musically speaking. He most enjoyed people's involvement in music and however it manifested in different people. He was a whiz of an electrical engineer and mechanic, too, and always willing to help folks in need out.
All best,
Johnm
