The penciled message on his hat, too, suggested some of the delight with life that has given to his blues their warmth and vitality: KID FURRY - Have Gun Will Travel - Sam Charters in the booklet accompanying the 1960 Folkways LP

String Band Legends

I recently discovered this very cool picture of:

Howard Armstrong, Yank Rachell, Banjo Ikey Robinson, Ted Bogan, and I forgot the last one's name, I think it's another Armstrong.

Anyway, can anyone tell me the date of this photograph?

I don't quite remember, but I'm thinking 1989.

From memory both Bogan and Robinson died in early 1990, so the photo must predate that.   :)

Great photo, Calvin. Where'd you find it?

Probably circa 1985--around the time of the filming of "Louie Bluie," which was released in 1985.

It was in the liner notes to "Louie Bluie"

I scanned a long, long time ago
and my mind must have been somewhere far, far away  ;)
