Big Bill's Blues --- Big Bill Broonzy
« on: August 12, 2006, 07:52:42 AM »
Just picked up a CD titled Big Bills Blues issued in 2005 by Prism Leisure out of England.

It is obviously a compilation, but it has versions of some tunes, I have not seen anywhere else..  The liner indicates that the songs were recorded between 1938 to 1952.

Some of my favorites on this CD are:

Make My Get Away with Ernest "BIG" Crawford on bass

Trouble in Mind with Ernest "BIG" Crawford on bass

Key To The Highway with Horace Malcomb on piano, Jazz Gillum on harmonica, unknown on bass and Washboard Sam on Washboard... NICE jazzy version of this tune

Rockin Chair Blues...Memphis Slim on Piano and Ransom Knowling on Bass... this is Big Bills version of Rock Me Baby with slightly different words.....

New Shake Em On Down....Joshua Altheimer on Piano and George Barnes on guitar...
George plays some nice jazzy solo's in this tune...

25 songs in total on the CD.... it was well worth the price and it in my CD player now...
