With all the talk of banjo blues, I thought I'd post my banjo version of Peg Leg Howell's "Skin Game Blues," played on a Bob Flesher minstrel banjo replica strung with gut strings. Sound quality is m'neh, sorry.

Chris This song could almost have been made for this arrangement. I think you do a great job and the song translates really well to banjo (fretless)?? As far as the vocals are concerned this is a good example of how 'using your own voice' - not something I'm able to do myself being from the wrong side of the Atlantic- works perfectly (see concurrent thread elsewhere).
This song really sounds wonderful performed this way, Chris. The way you are singing right on top of your melody played in a low register reminds me a little bit of some Sam Collins. I agree with Professor Scratchy, the song sounds as though it was made to go this way. Thanks for posting it.
All best, Johnm Wow, really great Chris -- gotta chime in, what a fine adaptation of a country blues to banjo!
Love the descending bass line bit and the very tubby sounding banjo! rbuniv
Chris;
No need to apologize for recording quality, the 32 bit MP3 doesn't give us much to work with but I'm still so happy that we are able to share our music via Weenie Campbell. Here at last is a venue for a blues banjo player. Thanks; RB Chris, a really nice job. I agree with the others, this sounds made for banjo, which is certainly a testament to your arrangement. That doesn't just happen. Kudos!
Chris,
Great stuff! Love the banjo part, how it echos but doesn't copy the guitar in the source. Your vocals have just the right attitude as well. Thanks for posting. Tommotmot Dr. G
It's all been said...and all I can add is "me too": great arrangement, totally cool vocals, nice "tubby", dark sound on the banjer -- and wonderful slides on the fretless.
