I just have 2544-2, found on the Document vol. 1, JSP disc 1, Yazoo Best of etc. And then 2544-1, which is take one, found on Document Too Late, Too Late Vol 11 (DOCD-5625).

--- End quote ---

Careless writing on my part, UB. I meant third takes of "Got the Blues" and "Long Lonesome" and the second take of "Corinna."

Here are comments on DB Blues:

--- Quote from: dingwall on May 02, 2008, 10:46:02 AM ---D B Blues - Blind Lemon Jefferson
Chicago c. August 1928, Pm 12712
E position pitched Eb

Oh, here come Lemon in that new Ford sedan. Oh, listen to the motor roar.

Who is that comin', hey with his motor so strong?
I say who is that comin', hey with his motor so strong?
That's Lemon and his DB, people thinks he's got his [cutout? colors? cutters?] on.

[Gon' get out] my [four-cylinder's dyin'/four-cylinder Dodge], I'm gonna get me a Super Six,
[Get out] my [four-cylinder's dyin'/four-cylinder Dodge], get me a Super Six,
I'm always 'round the ladies, and I likes to have my business fixed.

I'm crazy about a Packard but my baby only rates a Ford,
I'm crazy 'bout a Packard, my baby only rates a Ford,
A Packard is too expensive, Ford will take you where you want to go.

Come here, brownskin, listen to my motor roar,
Come here, fair brown, and listen to my motor roar,
Because my Super Six sufficient, to take you where you want to go.

I never did like no horses, and I never could stand no seal
I never did like no horses, I never could stand no seal
Every since I was old enough to catch a brown, they made [the automobile].
--- End quote ---

--- Quote ---D B Blues
1.3 That's Lemon IN his DB, people thinks he's got his GOOD LUCK on.
--- End quote ---

1.3 I don't hear GOOD LUCK. I think the original post may be right with "he's got his CUTOUT on".  I hear CUTOUT. I know next to nothing about automotive mechanics, but a part called a muffler cutout would bypass the muffler and create a roaring motor, I believe. Whether this would exist on a 1920s Dodge Brothers sedan, I have no idea.  Any car geeks here?

--- Quote ---2.1 GONNA get out of my FOUR-CYLINDER DODGE, I'm gonna get me a Super Six,
2.2 GET OUT OF my FOUR-CYLINDER DODGE, get me a Super Six,
--- End quote ---

Like Banjochris way back, I don't personally quite hear DODGE, but it could just be the way Lemon sings it. It makes sense anyway.

--- Quote ---3.2 I'm crazy ABOUT a Packard, my baby only rates a Ford,
--- End quote ---

I hear the rhythm of ABOUT more than the actual syllable A in ABOUT but agreed...

--- Quote ---5.3 Every since I'M old enough to catch a brown, they made THE AUTOMOBLE.
--- End quote ---

Just a typo, AUTOMOBILE.

dingwall:
Thanks for all the comments, Andrew.   Again, I've copied bits (but not those where you agree) and have put my comments in square brackets.

Christmas Eve Blues

4.2 Mama,(no DON'T, his error??)turn me down, on this Christmas Eve,
The DON'T is audible in this cleaner version.

[I've listened over and over to the mp3, recorded it for slowing, and can't make out a DON'T, or partial DON'T even in the briefest sense.   I'll modify it to a plain (no DON'T) in my comment ? my elastic imagination can see sense in it!]

Competition Bed Blues(20749-2)

1.2 Competition WORRIES(unsure. WORRYIN' again?)me, do---what competition MEAN?

1.2 I think it's WORRYIN' again, sung more as two syllables like "worr'in'". Agreed on the MEAN ending.

[I agree, WORRYIN'.   Will alter.]

4.1/2 Almost WRECKS my mind, competition's GOIN' between me and my friend
4.3 It HURTS me so, I thought we'd be pals TO the end

4.1/2 Very hard to hear, but I lean towards WRECKED. It sure sounds like WRECKED in the subsequent version of the song. Also in the subsequent version in verse 4.3 he sings "pals UNTIL the end". I can't really hear it either way here in this first version, but I'd lean towards 'TIL because of the later use of UNTIL.

[Yes, WRECKED and 'TIL]

Competition Bed Blues(21132-1)

3.1 I FOUND my partner's house, I stopped in to comb my head
3.2 I STOPPED in my partner's house, stopped in to comb my head

3.1 I hear PASSED BY my partner's house

[I'm confident about FOUND.   Leaving]

4.1 It almost WRECKS my mind, competition's GOIN' between me and my friend
4.2 I SAY IT almost WRECKS my mind, competition's GOIN' between me and my friend
4.3 It HURTS me so I thought WE WAS GONNA be pals until the end

As per above, I lean towards WRECKED. Otherwise, agreed on the changes in this verse.

[Agreed.   Will alter to WRECKED.]

5.2 IT JUST makes a man feel bad for his partner to turn him down
5.3 SAID(not 'Said) it's so much competition I believe I'll leave this town

5.2 I think it is "YES IT MAKES a man feel bad..." or "IT'S A -- MAKES A man feel bad" as an error to begin the line.
Not hearing a J for JUST at all.

[Agree to YES, IT MAKES.  Will change.]

Corinna Blues (take 1)

1.3 YOU made me love you now your friend is come

Hard to hear whether it's a YOU or a pop in the record!

[I hear YOU clear enough.   Leaving.]

Corinna Blues (2544-1)

I'll insert the copy you chose at the appropriate place (after take 1) and add my usual comments taking on board your own remarks.

D B Blues

1.3 That's Lemon IN his DB, people thinks he's got his GOOD LUCK on.

1.3 I don't hear GOOD LUCK. I think the original post may be right with "he's got his CUTOUT on".  I hear CUTOUT. Whether this would exist on a 1920s Dodge Brothers sedan, I have no idea.  Any car geeks here?

[Not a geek so can't help.   But my GOOD LUCK is because I find clear G L K sounds.   Some geek alternative might be better if  it has these sounds, but otherwise I treat it as meaning he's lucky having this DB.   Sounds sort of GIDLUCK.]

2.1 GONNA get out of my FOUR-CYLINDER DODGE, I'm gonna get me a Super Six,
2.2 GET OUT OF my FOUR-CYLINDER DODGE, get me a Super Six,

Like Banjochris way back, I don't personally quite hear DODGE, but it could just be the way Lemon sings it. It makes sense anyway.

[DODGE is the nearest I can get to a car make.   More work for the geek, but till then, it's DODGE.]

I'll make the changes (including adding the other 'Corinna Blues') over the next two days.

PROPOSED FINAL VERSION

Lemon's Cannon Ball Moan(20401-1) ? Blind Lemon Jefferson

Chicago c. March 1928, Pm 12639
A position pitched A#

It was late last night, light's burnin' by my bed.
It was late last night, and light's burnin' by my bed.
Eased my head to the window, this is what my baby said.

"Let's just lay here easy till the cock go to crowin' 'fore day."
Says, "Just lay here easy till that cock go to crowin' 'fore day."
Eased my clothes out the window gonna make my getaway.

I got a dirty mistreater she's mean as she can be.
Got a dirty mistreater, mean as she can be,
I didn't figure she was so mean till she dropped that cannon on me.

When my rider drawed the cannon, oooh, my flesh begin to crawl.
When my rider drawed the cannon my flesh begin to crawl.
Any man feel kind o' different when he's faced with a cannonball.

I stepped two feet forward, started to break and run.
I stepped two feet forward, tryin' to break and run.
Ah, but a man don't outrun a cannon, it's same as a Gatlin' gun.
