No Need Of Knockin' On The Blind-Papa Charlie Jackson
A position, standard tuning
NOTE: Papa Charlie's spoken passages are parenthesized.

(There was an old man, about eighty-two,
Married a young girl, about twenty-two
They decided to live 'way in the woods,
And built theirself a little bungaloo

Along come a young fella, about twenty-six
Thought maybe he'd have a chance to get his fix
He thought he was wise, but he got smacked
And he swore he was gonna bite that old man right square on his back

The old man happened to go to work every morning. The young fella's slippin' around, seein' what he could do. His wife's in the kitchen, tryin to fix the breakfast, with a little baby playin' on the floor. But the old man had stayed home that night. Along came the young fella, she peeked through the blinds and seen him coming, but she couldn't get a chance to tell him the old man was home. So they started a little song. Now, here's the way that song went.)

There's no need of knocking on the blind
There's no need of knocking on the blind
Whilst the baby is a-creeping, my old man's in the house, sleeping,
And there's no need, knocking on the blind

(The old man happened to wake up, said,
"Baby, what kind of song is that, you singin'?"
She say, "You know the baby didn't rest so good last night, so I thought I'd sing a little song to put the baby to sleep while I fix your breakfast."
"You know I bought this truck farm for you and I and you and I alone. So I think I got a little verse for you."
"All right then, sing it.")

He said, "There's no need of knocking on the blind
There's no need of knocking on the blind
Whilst the baby is a-crawling, I'll do my own fallin'
And there's no need, knocking on the blind

There's no need of knocking on the blind
There's no need of knocking on the blind
Whilst the baby is a-talking, I'll do my own trucking
And there's no need, knocking on the blind"
